    Gearbox oil

When collecting my 06 XK from my friendly indy after a full service he commented that the gearbox oil he drained looked burnt and smelt like cats urine (not his exact words but a censored version!)

Does anyone know a logical reason for the colour and odour?

I'm assuming it was the first time the oil and filter had been changed as the car has just over 50k on the clock.

ZF recommend the gearbox is serviced at 60k. So my guess, it was probably just due a change, more so if it has been driven hard.
