    Pin Stripes

    Hi everyone,

I am getting a full repray on my 1995 Convertible 4.0 ltr facelift and am going to get the pin stripes put back on. However, the original lines have gone and I would like to get them as near to original as possible.

Can anyone send me some pictures of how the factory stripes looked on the 1995 XJS? Mine is metallic burgundy red (not sure what that was called officially) and I think it should have a silver and orange pin stripe, however pictures of any colour originals would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Rick

Thanks payno. The pictures in the brochure are useful, but when I zoom in on the pin stripe it is too fuzzy to get the exact shape, particularly at the front and back. Any more detailed pictures much appreciated...

That must the fault of the device you are using as it expands fine on mine
You could try loading it into your pics folder and enlarging it in there
here is another pic of one with the stripe in the same position

Wait while you have the car painted and have a look at it. The car looks more beefy without the stripe and does suit the look, purely my opinion of course.

I do not offer advice, I only say what I would do with the set of circumstances presented. Your choice always.

At the moment it has had a (bad) respray and there is no coachline (apparently that's what Jaguar call it - not Pin Stripe!) and while it might look more "beefy" I just think it should look like what it is - a car from the 80's/90's.

Anyway, my intention is to try and keep it original and I quite like the original look. As you say it is all a matter of personal preference.

No probs, when I had mine resprayed I had the original coach lines put back on also. It was after that I saw a photo of one without and thought, hmmm.

Thanks again for the pictures. I have tried the brochure on my hi res PC screen and while it was better than the iPad it was still not high enough resolution to really get the stripe accurate. The second picture I have also downloaded and zoomed in, but as I get down to the detail I need this is all I get:

Name:	jaguarxjs963 detail.jpg
Views:	36
Size:	32.8 KB
ID:	25912
As you can see, once zoomed in it is too blocky and full of JPEG artifacts to see accurately.

I have Googled images for it, and there are lots, but it is impossible to see the detail I want and also to know exactly what year car it is from.

I have had some useful info from jaguarclassicparts.com - apparently during my year JLR switched from stick on decals to painted 'coachlines'. Although the template is still available the stick on decals are not and guess what - mine is just pre paint-on template, so it would have had decal type coachlines.

So, I am still looking for someone with a 1994/5 XJS 4.0lt with VIN just before 196445. Preferably in Metallic red with original coachlines...

Well spotted - glad to see there is some enterprising person out there - they look good. However I just discovered that jaguarclassicparts.co.uk actually do have most of the coachlines for my car available! Although the web site says they are not available, when I emailed with questions about my particular car they "found" enough for me to do all except the front RH in front of the wheel arch! Hopefully my body shop will be able to match it to complete the lines. It worked out quite a bit more than your eBay offering though
