Horner and Hudson Macclesfield anyone use?

These seem like the guys I'll be using once I've got the Jag. What's the score with a yearly service, can you sit and wait while they do it on a Saturday if booked in advance, or is it a case of dropping it off and getting the train home then returning later in the day?

They don't offer the collect service from my postcode unfortunately.

My apologies for not responding sooner to the OP. I refer you to a post I made on 13/5/13 in the "Independent Serving All Areas" section which I have cut and pasted for ease of reference.

"Can I recommend Jaguar specialist Horner & Hudson in Macclesfield. Mike Horner is a level 4 Jaguar Master technician. I have used Horner & Hudson on a number of occasions for routine/preventative work and problem solving on my XK8. I have found their approach to problem solving to be logical and well thought out such that they have been able to identify and remedy problems properly and quickly. For example, I recently had my car undersealed and shortly afterwards got an ABS and DSC system failure indicated. It happened that I was passing a main dealer and as the car was still covered by a Jaguar Approved warranty I took the car in for them to look at. I was told the car needed a new ABS sensor and wiring harness. As the car was booked in at Horner & Hudson for other work, I asked them to have a look at the ABS/DSC issue. The problem was identified as a bit of the underseal clogging up 2 teeth on the ABS sensor ring which was easily and cheaply removed thus solving the problem. In other words, by thinking and properly investigating the issue rather than simply swapping out bits until a cure is chanced upon (and bearing in mind the main dealer had been given the same history and had access to similar investigative tools) the real cause of the problem was identified and remedied.
I have seen a variety of Jaguars new and older at H&H and have no hesitation in recommending them. I confirm I have no connection with Horner & Hudson beyond that of satisfied customer".

Since that post, the car has been back to H&H for its annual service. I have not been caused to change my earlier expressed view of the service I have received and I continue to recommend them.

    Thought I'd chime in here.

I'm in no way affiliated, have used several garages around the country, abroad in Poland, Germany and Belgium and most official Jag garages are just shocking, really shocking. Just a few I've been to in the UK; Stratstone Manchester (absolute crooks and incompetent should not be allowed to service or sell Jags), Guy Salmon Ascot (incompetent should not be allowed to service Jags), Guy Salmon South Manchester (lackadaisical although not incomptent, excelled at running up huge bills at my expense for things that turned out to be very simple fixes), as well as unofficial XJK ltd in Newcastle under lyme (who although I cannot complain about service, misdiagnosed my problem running into £1000s of pounds, good job I did not go ahead).

All these garages except for XJK (who I didn't mention it to) told me there is no such thing as "lurching" and that it was normal, when it clearly wasn't and wasn't from new.

H&H knew exactly what the issue was immediately and dealt with it with no issue, you know when you are talking to someone who knows these cars and knows how to approach dealing with problems on the car without running into £££s at the customers expense..

I will be using them again and recommending them to everyone.

If you are interested you can contact me and I will tell you exactly about my experiences with other garages, they are horror stories to say the least.
