Is it for real? I thought that due to body weigh and structural support they never made one???

It certainly does look tasty, would have been the only convertible on the market with a fully useable boot whether the roof was up or down.

90% sure that looks like a render to me. Looks nice though but it would have issues around the rear seats. The windscreen profile looks wrong to me as well.
    Our garage.

It is just a rendering, like many other ideas never went further than the drawing board. But why wouldn't it have worked, BMW have done it with their 4 door saloons and Audi as well as Mercedes, but I suppose the motoring press would have killed any enthusiasm for a convertible X Type.

Why did the press have such scorn for our precious X?

Because it's a just Mondeo in a frock with a heftier price tag!

Or in other words, they had no clue about anything, yet were content to yell just like most people these days. The X-Type shares 19% of the parts with the MK3 Mondeo, that's less than half of what the S-Type shares with the Lincoln LS. I never got why being related to the Mondeo was such a bad thing anyway, it was the best-in-class back then.
    The cars : Jaguar X-TYPE - AROnline

That picture is just a photo-manipulation. That website is just people photoshopping photos of cars into new cars to show off their skill, which they undeniably have.

    EDIT:
Jaguar knows better though, look at these
    Sold: Platinum 2001 X-Type, 2.5 V6 Manual SE, in Dove & Granite
Mina Gallery exhaust, AEM DryFlow intake sans resonator, EBC RedStuff pads
Drilled pedals & wooden steering wheel, rear tread plates, AUX-IN mod

Looks very much like an old Volvo C70 convertible that I used to own!
