    Post Ss1 1934. Ayy 987

Thought it might be interesting to add this thread. My father owned an SS1 Tourer (London registration number AYY 987) from mid 1948 until the end of 1953. It was our family car used extensively for towing a caravan including a trip to Switzerland in 1952 to attend the FICC International rally. It was the first car I drove on the road.
My father sold the car for £80 in exchange for a Sunbeam Talbot 90 Convertible. I was sure the car would have been scrapped only to find through Classic and Sports Car that it had turned up in USA and further that it was in fact a factory prepared competition car having won it's class in the1934 Alpine Trial. As far as I know it is undergoing full restoration by Brian Benni, a Jaguar and SS collector in New York.

    Great story DONRYAN.
Never ceases to amaze me where these rare cars turn up.
