Mine was a 1966 Singer Chamois. It was my mums. When my older brother blew up the engine, my dad said if I can get it going again I can have it. I was 16 at the time, my dad worked in Rolls Royce in East Kilbride, where the could make anything...
Long story short, my 998cc would leave 1.6GT Cortinas for dead...
That’s when I decided I best get a licence. No kids it wasn’t clever, and no I wouldn’t do it now...

The Hillman Imp and Singer Chamois could shift on with it OHC engine. I remember running my brother in laws for two weeks when he was in hospital.
I converted the front suspension on a few to reduce that negative camber, it made the handling much better.
Now relying on my trusty Rover 75 Connoisseur

First car I owned was an old A35. First car I drove, due to the A35 failing an MOT, was a Ford Escort 1300 xl LVM 820G. O also had a some stage a Sunbeam Stiletto which was an Imp in a different body. That was a pile of scrap in motion. Blew up on the way to a hot date back in the day and would have cost more to repair than the thing was worth. Not Rootes best effort.
We are all very wealthy but don't know it. We have time. You can't buy anymore so don't waste it...

I had a Hillman Imp for my sins always blowings its head gasket and it blew a cylinder liner - worst car I ever owned although learnt a lot about engines during my ownership!

My first car was a 1995 Rover 214 SLi. It started an enthusiasm to British cars, leading to the ownership of a number of other Rovers and eventually my second Jag (my first Jag never worked, it was an ornament on the drive).

1974, paid £30 for a 1961 Triumph Herald 1200, green/white, registration 396 WK. Scrapped car after two years and sold plate for £90. Wonder what it would be worth now?

Ah, those take me back! I hadn't thought about that car in years, but great to see that they have become colectable. With the bonnet opening all the way forward, the Heralds were great to work on. The sixth one down, the yellow /white is very similar to mine. After that one passed on, I had a 12/50 in plain green. That also cost me £30, but had a full sunroof and a big whippy aerial that anchored somewhere at the back of the car. Happy days!

Having done a little research, I think the plate would now be worth in the region of £5,000 - £7,000 ...... if only we knew then what we do now ......
