Great write up Rich! Will be useful if god forbid mine need doing. Genuinely surprised Jim has not mentioned the brake hubs, I think I have had 3 times now lol.

At the risk of being soundly ridiculed for naievity, why wasn't a heavy-duty puller sufficient?
    Are our hubs THAT tight?

The centre part of the puller would be sat on the part that is being pulled so it wouldn’t work.

Remember Phil, the only daft question is the one you don’t ask, then you’re left looking daft because you didn’t ask it in the first place.

I only posed the 'stupid question' because I believe I still own a decent quality puller, but never used it in anger.
Just wondering why it's referred to as a hub puller, when clearly it cannot pull hubs - at least not ours!

    Cheers J.

Thanks for the praise Chris, you're not the first to mention similar, however I ain't got the inclination.

I too wondered about the hub carrier, but it's substantial and I had each bolt end tighten up against the engineers rule.

    Knocking them round, tried that.

Nowt was budging it, the penetrant hadn't even penetrated between the faces.

    Anyway, time for round two.

Ginger nut fell in my tea whist reading this little sub thread

I've no doubt your puller would have been up to the job Phil, a one piece hub assembly has benefits, just not when you need to get them out.

Appen Jaguar will have a fancy, mega buck tool for the job.

So have I, a brain, a bag 'o' bolts, an angle grinder and Yorkshire grit and determination.

    On to part deux.

A happy ending to a good job well done Rich , bolt method is fine even with soft 8.8 bolts

Pre-soaking the week before may have helped , the mixture of metals will never be a good one !

How much clearance did you have for removal ? Is there 25mm room in there for low profile jacks ?
