Well it has come back from a service and a thorough check with the following advisories:

    MOT Fails:
Play in top of steering column. 2 Sections of welding required N/S front and center floor.
OSF Lower ball joint dust cover split.

    Advisories:
    OSF for lamp inop
A/C compressor seized. fuelpipes heavily corroded. Diff input and N/S output shaft leaking.
engine oil leak from sump gasket and oil filter housing.
Radiator leaking coolant and auto gearbox fluid leak.
Front anti roll bar D Bushes worn. Rear subframe bushes "donut type" collapsed.
    N/S Silencer has poor repair.
All tyres perished. Rear bumper stops missing.
Rear flexi hoses ferrules corroded. Front flexi hoses perished.
    Aux belt tensioner noisy.
    Play in N/S diff shaft.

Well the MOT isn't until end of May so plenty of time to get the big jobs done and then work through the rest in order of severity.

Annual Service time and this is the report/invoice from a different guy I'm using to look after it... XJ Services in Corby.

To Service (customer supplied parts and oils) £180
Remove oil cooler bypass coupling, replace all 4 O rings and refit, clean off majority of lost oil inc O rings and cleaner £25.00
    Total £205

    Notes:
O/S rear ABS sensor is dead, will need to be replaced for MOT test.
Serious oil leak from oil cooler bypass coupling (fixed).
    Front disc pads 10% worn.
    Rear disc pads 10% worn.
Rear A Frame bushes are good at present.
N/S lower ball joint has split cover, will need to be replaced for MOT test.
General surface rust on axle members front and rear.
Slight leak on steering fluid cooler return pipe to reservoir.
Click when braking from centre console is the gear selector lock solenoid, this should normally operate when coming out of Park, but for some reason is operating through all selector positions.

Also advised to start sourcing a fresh set of front and rear shock absorbers that he will fit prior to the July MOT test.

That's a lovely car in a smashing colour scheme. I do love the old XJ models.

It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to see someone caring for what is becoming an increasingly rare car these days.

    Thanks Chris,

Tim from XJ Services said he hasn't done much work on an X300 for a while and a LWB version is very rare.

Hi, I have a 95 Sovereign that I haven't driven for over a year. Need to move it on my driveway but cant get it started now (even with a battery booster pack). How do I get it out of Park into Neutral to allow it to roll. Shame it will have to go because its only done 107K miles and apart from two bits of rust on the front wings it is in pretty good shape. Any help you can give would be very much appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Tony

    Tony,

When you had the battery booster pack attached did you get any of the dashboard lights come on, even though you couldn't get it to start? I had a similar problem a fortnight ago when I had a failing battery and couldn't get it from Park to Neutral. I tried jump starting from my S-Type and although it wouldn't start there was enough power to get the gear Select Lever to move from Park to Neutral wit the ignition turned On and the brake depressed.

In the end I bought a replacement battery and that sorted it out.
