    Alarm Activated

    Hi Guys,

Having owned my XF for 4 years now, a couple of nights ago at stupid o'clock the alarm went off much to the annoyance of the neighbours. It turned off OK using the remote and the following day I disabled the alarm in the vehicle settings so as it wouldn't happen again. I have noticed today that there is a quietish chirping noise coming from somewhere which stopped when I unlocked and locked the car, it hasn't happened since. I have activated the alarm again and keeping my fingers crossed for a peaceful night. Two questions:- Has the XF alarm system got a backup battery? and if so where is it? Could a cat jumping on the roof of the car be enough to activate the alarm? Thanks for your invaluable help.

If you are hearing a chirping noise when the alarm is activated then I would suspect you’ll be getting a low battery voltage soon.
Not sure where the chirp sounder is on your car but usually under one of the wheel arch liners.

As for the cat, depends on how big it was.

I had a number of false alarms at idiot o' clock, it turned out to be a LARGE Moth that woke up and flew around.
Wifey found it in the door shut one morning, flicked it out, no more alarms.
Seems to me the alarm is a bit sensitive.
Not sure where the back up battery is, if there is one fitted, if you find it let us know.

The battery backup sounder battery is low and trying to notify with the low chirp that it needs replacing. They’re usually attached near the bulkhead area in the engine bay.

Alarm went off again last night at 02:30 so I just left the car unlocked until morning - I noticed that the leaper screen was illuminated whilst unlocked, is this usual and would it eventually turn itself off? I have disabled the sensors and used the single locking but the chirping has started again from what sounds to be below the centre of the windscreen scuttle but I'm not sure whether it's on the engine side of the bulkhead or the cabin side - can anyone shed any light to it's actual location. I contacted my nearest Jaguar specialist and they thought it may be on the cabin side as they have undertaken lots of scuttle removals on XF's and never noticed any backup battery packs. The alarm screen is showing that the alarm was triggered last night by the volumetric sensor but I'm unsure whether this could be due to the backup battery as well or are the two unrelated? Anybody want a lovely XF going chirp

If it’s saying the volumetric sensor has been triggered then you either have something flying around in there or a defective sensor. Single locking should disable that sensor or have a look in security settings.

BEWARE Some years the alarm on my BMW 635 keep going off throughout the night and I just reset it . In the morning I checked it out and all seemed OK. The next night it went off again in the early hours so I switched it off. Imagine my surprise when in the morning I found all the Glass had been stolen! Gutted . It cost me a few quid to get that sorted . Scumbags !

Hi if you are single locking the car and the volumeric sensor is activating it must be a faulty sensor, as stated it shouldn't even be live on a single lock. Phil
