    Mir was just preventative, no evidence of a problem. Hopefully no chance of one now.
    Silly question but wouldn't just the break in the cable suffice if the pump's working OK?

    Not a silly question and yes, in principle you are right. If the pump is fine, separating the wires should be sufficient. I replaced the pump as belt and braces. The only benefit is, if the pump does ever leak, it won’t corrode the plug attached to it or the wires. If I 100% trusted the new pump I’d maybe not have bothered but there’s always that small doubt and given its all out of sight behind covers so it can’t be regularly checked, and it’s a real faff to get to, I wanted to ensure I could fix and forget.

    I bought a new pump a while back (c2z30987) to replace mine as a precautionary measure, I'm planning to swap it out on the next sunny day I have free.

    I read somewhere that there was a filter, did you see a filter anywhere when changing the pump?
