    Air con compressor

Hi, I have just changed the air con compressor and the dryer on my 1996 Celebration. It was off the road for about 5 years and the clutch stuck on, it destroyed the bearing in the front end and may well have destroyed the coil which pulls the clutch in. I did not see this until it was too late.
The result was the purchase of a new air con compressor and dryer. I was lucky enough to find one on ebay that was the correct spec, a reconditioned one was about 150 quid more.
So my question is, as there is no gas in the system will it be O.K to run her with the belt on relying on the clutch being de-energised?
Or should I just uncouple the belt?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Arty

Without gas the clutch will not engage so no problem running the car. You could just remove the fuse for the clutch. Fuse 4 in right hand fuse box.

Thanks Roger, I just wanted to be sure as it cost a lot to re new and I cannot get it re gassed until week beginning 21st, so over a week to wait. Its a faff to have to loosen off the belt as I do not have a lift, only a jack.

Had the re gas successfully completed at ATS Euromaster in Morpeth yesterday. It was a groupon deal for 29 quid, most garage's locally wanted 45 or more, they stated the gas has gone up over 400% this year so I thought this was a bargain.

My local garage told me the same thing that the gas had gone up 4 times in price. They said there was only one supplier so they had a bit of a monopoly on it and could charge what they liked.
