    Straight through exhaust

    Hi help needed, I am thinking of fitting a straight through exhaust to my 2003 3.0 ltr X type Auto, can you see any problems with this idea.Please help.

    One question comes to mind WHY. You would still have to have the Cat. I also believe the engine power is supplemented by the boxes so removing them would have a detrimental effect on power.

    Not quite true, there have been proven pover gains from 200cell cats and less restrictive exhuast system.

    In my experience, a straight through pipe would be way too loud. You still need resonators and silencers to get the balance right.

    Not to mention how badly it would drone long journeys would be uncomfortable on the ears

    I replaced the cat and centre silencer with straight pipe but you do need a muffler at the end as it will sound like tank otherwise. Problem is yours is running on gasoline and will fail the emissions test without cats fitted. You can get sport cats which are less restrictive and from that straight section to a free flowing muffler but it'll just give you a louder and slightly deeper tone, maybe a few burbles on the over-run but that's about it. Unless noise means a lot to you then it's not worth doing unless you want to do supporting mods to aid performance.
