Depends how desperate you are to stop the noise.

Got the car back - of the 4 items it went in for:

    1) Radio / heated screen - fixed (new rear windscreen)
    2) Roof rattle/creak from sunroof - declined despite TSB which states it's a warranty item, asked for the customer relations number
    3) Creaky door seals - fixed (cleaned - apparently some polish or something must have got on them)
    4) Wobble/shake between 72-80mph - they couldn't replicate it. Apparently they're not allowed to test past the speed limit and it's fine up until 70, which is true. They won't even ride in the car with me while I take it to 76. This puts me in a difficult situation and I'll be taking it to get the rears checked on a Hunter machine. I don't actually drive that fast usually but if it's wobbling at that speed it'll prematurely wear things at 70 too even if you can't feel it.

I came to accept the XE as a reasonable car - we did both bump our heads on it though getting in, the missus prefers the soft touch doors and amount of space in the XJ. If I needed a commuter car I'd try a petrol auto with high spec trim out. I did several hundred miles in it including a trip from hell in the driving snow on the M25.

I decided I don't want to keep driving the Jaguar to the car storage place my Plymouth lives at (too much mud & stone chips and nasty narrow roads), so I bought a third car....

It'll polish out I'm sure - should be a fun project.

Aye a touch of G3 and a bit of elbow grease, and it'll be like new.

Indeed. It's a good job they chalked an arrow on the front wing where the paint chip is, otherwise you'd be hard pressed to tell what was wrong.

If anyone wants to follow the story of the Fiat, I'm maintaining a thread here:

    https://www.fiatforum.com/500/465089...ml#post4378003

Girlfriend seems happier now the XJR is back, she missed the soft close doors, so did I - didn't really appreciate how nice those are before. So nice being able to listen to the radio - the reception was really poor in addition to the HRW caused dropouts.

Worth carrying one in the boot, in case you have a breakdown.
