    2007 S-Type Spirit auto diesel

    HI guys,
    thinking of buying one of these. 93K on the clock, extensive history,2 owners.
    Anything too look out for.
    Is it cambelts or timing chain? (I havent got much time to search)

    cambelts.

    The oil pumps on 2007 models have a weak mount where the cambelt tensioner is.
    Is is common for this to fail just after a cambelt change! So if you plan to change the belt, I would also recommend changing the pump too. £150.

    People will say they never fail on the S type, but it simply isn't true.

    Glow plugs are a nightmare to change on these! So if you plan to start the car on freezing mornings, be warned!
    If they don't want to come out, it can cost £700 in labour to get them out

    In today's world, 12K or 15K at least a year.

    Get a petrol otherwise!

    Check that the oil is not above the level and does not smell of diesel. It is best that you do an oil change straight away and fill it to the max level so that you can see if it rises due to a failed dpf clean.

    Has the gearbox oil been changed as Zf recommend that is done around 100000 miles or 10 years will cost around 400 pounds.
