S-Type R engine probleme when cold

    Hello everyone,

Sorry i don't good speak english but i registered to this forum because i haven't found solution for my problem. So i think in english i can found!

I have buy a Jaguar S-Type R because i like this car and this one was cheap. So i took it.

At first, the screw on transmission was unscrew (from transmission cable to gear lever) and because of that the "P" can't be remove. It's a known problem. Now it works. That was simple.

    But now the real problem:
When engine cold, at the morning when i start for the first time my car, it run good by idling but when i drive it (60-90kmh 30-50mph) it make like hammer. You know what i mean? When driving the car 15-20minute the problem come no more.

When problem occurs, the rpm up and down 200-300 and acceleration is weak.

If you can help me i will be very happy.

A other question, this forum is American or British?

It's British. If you could tell us which S type you have, 4.0 or 4.2, there will be people on here that can probably help.

I gather it's an R, as in STR.

What year? (Some early cars have the same issue with the torque convertor as the other engined S-Types. E.g. see TSB S307-13 or else S307-14.)

I don't know the model names that well yet. Is the STR the 4.2 one?

If by "gauge" you mean dip stick to check fluid / oil level the gearbox doesn't have one
