    Angry Early Christmas “gift”

    Hi

I went out to defrost the cars this morning before work, I blipped the fob and got the impression the door didn’t unlock, tried the handle and nope it was definitely still locked.

Queue repeat a few times, I then peered in through the frost and could see low battery on the dash. I managed to get into the car via the back door as neither front would open, that was fun climbing through to the front, glad that wasn’t caught on camera!

The car barely turned over at all before giving up, so out with jump leads and jump start from the Range Rover, queue 2nd issue. One of the bonnet struts must be shot, as the flaming bonnet wouldn’t stay up!

I ended up giving up as Mrs was ready and we just went in the Rangey. The car started fine on jump once I got home this afternoon (early finish nice) and is now on charge with my CTEK.

Will see how that goes, looks like the original battery in there so probably getting about time for a replacement which is about the same age as my X358 when it needed replacing.

    Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas
    Colin

Even if the battery wasn't toast before, they rarely recover well from being left flat for ages. Though if a useless Ctek can get *any* charge in it, it wasn't that flat.

Bonnet struts are around £15-30 each, and about 5 mins to change - guide in the stickies sub forum.

50% of ECP, that makes me chuckle. Only the Brits could fall for that one. We're stupid enough to believe Boxing Day sales are a genuine attempt to shift left over stock (the vast, vast majority is ordered in especially ordered in for Boxing Day), stupid enough to believe that a DFS or SCS massive discount sale is actually a sale.

And ECP discount code brings down an inflated ECP price to the correct price for what they are selling. Please, please don't fall for that one.

Hi Colin, merry Christmas to you buddy

I guess at around 7+ years they don't owe you much, once replaced all will be well I'm sure

Good luck and hope to hear, a thread on the battery details, where bought + alternatives, costs and fitting procedures etc with pics will be nice

    Hey Jim

Yes belated Merry Christmas to you too. She started first thing on Christmas Day when I went out to pick up my sister in law and nephews, then my in-laws.

Sat all day yesterday then started first time again this morning for work, there were no previous signs of the battery going but been there before I guess.

I’ll see how she goes the next week or so, if not now will definitely need doing in near future. My very low weekly mileage doesn’t help, rarely getting above 40 mph on my short commute to work, she would likely benefit from some motorway driving and some more miles.

Nice one on your passing today.

    Cheers
    Colin

Deffo needs more of a run Colin.....

Anytime you want to have a wee blast through my way, meet up and have them pictured together, feel free...…

Sound like a battery sooner rather than later, you're too long in the tooth to be having these issues for long and knowing what the potential problem is likely to be.

Thanks for the comments on the pass, should've been an easy one to be fair, but I don't like to take anything for granted
