Maybe a silly question, but did you locate the key in it’s slot to the right of the steering wheel?

It is a 2015 XF facelift. It does not have a "slot".

Maybe Shabnam has already tried this? I'm not sure if this is the same in the 2015 model but it works with my car (2013).
According to the handbook, page 78, the key should be held flat against the fascia below the auxiliary switch pack (which is where the slot is on pre-facelift cars) and that is some distance away from ignition/steering lock). Furthermore, the handbook also states that this will only work when the message "Smartkey Not Found - Refer To Handbook" is displayed which is not the message being displayed on Shabnam's message display.

You are quite right Chris. I was getting confused with my wife's car.
