My advice is take it to an independent Jaguar specialist
Hi All
Its my 1st post here, so sorry if i miss any etiquette.
As it says above, my 05 STR makes what can only be described as a clattering noise as it approaches the redline.
I initially thought it was a gear box problem as it wouldn't change up once reaching a high RPM (regardless of current gear).
So i took it to an auto specialist. 2 different people test drove it there but didn't know what it was.
Although they did say it was coming from the top of the engine rather than the gearbox.
Anyway they did some other work on it, and gave it back for me to return it next week for further investigation.
They speculated it could be timing chain, or tappets, but confessed they probably have to do a bit of research about the engine before taking a look again.,
They said the supercharger is fine.
Its done 105k miles, has a full history, and i've had it about 3 - 4 months.
It makes the noise in the jgate, and auto, with sport button on & off. It'll only change gear when moderately accelerating.
I was just wondering if anyone could comment through there own experience?
I cant find anything via google..
I just thought it might be helpful to give the garage a bit of a steer if someone her could have an educated guess.
(I have a little bit of mechanical knowledge, so could probably decipher a technical reply.)
Thanks in advance
Matt

You can not beat me in a argument
I am too stupid to know when I am beaten
Thanks Payno
I know that might be the best bet, but it was the 1st time i've used the last place and they were very good, so wanted to hopefully get to know them a little.
They're going to do a bush, and a crank bearing for me anyway so might tell them if they cant figure out the engine, i'll take it elsewhere.
Still wouldn't mind an idea of what it might be though.
Totally agree with payno, take it to a Jag indie in your area to investigate further. From experience the Indie I use are top class and what they don't know it not worth knowing about, best of luck Gos

thanks both, no point asking for advice and not taking it, so i'll do as suggested.

FYI, its been diagnosed as very restricted flow through the cats, so to much back pressure.
The cats are being refurbed atm, so will let you know if its cured when its back.
I did book it with my local indy, but didn't take it to them when they failed basic stone age customer service to my annoyance.
Back to the garage above who are excellent.
