    My 5.0 XJ L

Well today set off from home in kent and 3 train rides and 3hr 30 mins later got to the station where the owner was meeting me.

Test drove the car on the way back to his house and was looking forward to the drive back from Suffolk to Kent, when we pulled into his drive and steam started to escape from under the bonnet and a smell of coolant.... the owner has assured me of the water pump being replaced a couple of years ago but it looks like it's either that or the water pump gasket has gone?

He has all paperwork for all work carried out previously and he looked genuinely stunned so has offered that his local specialist will look at it Monday and perform any surgery needed all costs no matter what covered by himself and he even drove me and my 2 kids back home in his company car

So just need to wait a bit longer and he will also get the garage to double check everything at the same time. Gutted yes but just have to wait a bit longer but will it be worth it I think yes.

Also anyone know the colour of the xj in my avatar as not sure if it's blue frost or ice blue.
    Rob.

Yes, definitely worth the wait as he sounds like a genuine seller.I think the colour is frost blue. Good luck and post more when you get the car.

That's what I am thinking that's why I am willing to wait and he was so gutted you could see it in his face.

Thanks for the heads up on the colour... here's a couple of photos I took earlier on today

He was genuinely surprised and looked quite horrified that it happened. I must admit I did fall head over heels for this car, and also the seller to his credit has been texting me last night and today and another plus side is he has all the paperwork of everything that's been done on the car from the day it was first sold.

I am trying to research local jag independents locally to me in kent and looked at the sticky in another part if the forum just seeing if anyone has any great recommendations.

Just a quick update the seller sent me a text and he has a fully trained jag mechanic friend who has confirmed it's not the water pump as it was replaced 18 months ago..... it's this part, which he is off to his Jaguar main dealer parts dept tomorrow so it looks like the 2 weakest links will have been replaced
If the dealer has it in stock that is!!!

Anyone know what part this is as not really mechanically minded as apparently this is attached under the inlet manifold

Thanks yea to me looks even better in the flesh, just so glad it happened when it did and he couldn't have been any more horrified and apologetic. I know it's going to be worth the wait.

Just a quick update from the seller Marshalls don't have the crossover pipe (I think that's what it's called in group stock) but he has ordered it and should be a couple of days longer.
So at least I know that the 2 main weak points of the V8 would have been changed so the extra wait is semi killing me as I am itching to drive the car but my sensible head is telling me the wait is worth it.
