    Wobbly steering on 420G

    Hi all,

New to jaguar ownership. Bought a 1968 420G.

Have wobbly steering, please see here:

I have not got a manual yet, so have any of you any ideas on what and how to fix this issue?

    Cheers
    Paul

A bush may have collapsed or slipped out of the bottom of the steering column.

    Thank you.

Any idea how to fix and with what parts? If the bush has slipped out, surely I should see it?

Is there any way someone can post schematic of how that goes together and with what parts?

    Cheers
    Paul

The lower steering bush has distintegrated, probably the upper too.

A replacement set is about $30

In order to change out the lower, the entire steering column must be removed from the car, stripped down completely on the bench to the very last piece

Its worth replacing any other worn parts while you are at it.

The job is not overy difficult, but a manual is needed, a cheap CD off Ebay works.

I recently replaced these bushes in my 420G, be aware the top and bottom bush look alike, but are different!
