Slip the belt off and have a listen.

I agree if it is the water pump you can isolate it by removing the belt to see if the noise is still there when the pump has stopped. You could also use the long screwdriver method to listen to different parts of the engine to see if you can isolate its position. It is basically like using a stethoscope. You put the sharp end against the part you wish to listen to and the handle to your ear. If it is the water pump you will hear it using this method.
Sometimes finding a noise like this can require a bit of elimination work. Replace or fix the cheapest part first slowly working your way up to major parts until you find it. One part at a time though.

I agree with Rob. Often the problem is nowhere near the general noise. You need to get close in to each area using the screwdriver method or if you are lucky a stethoscope.
My mechanic finds a stethoscope invaluable. Don’t know where he got it from, didn’t ask......

Work you way along the cam cover and you should be able to narrow down the noisy area.

Can you put the link up again?

    It's still not resolved.
It's my Dad's car, however he's currently restoring an MG-TF so the Jag isn't getting much attention!
I bought the tappet bucket hold-down kit for it, but it's not yet fitted.
He has another theory however... the oil pressure drops somewhat as the engine warms (and the noise is only there when warm), so he suspects there is insufficient oil pressure to mute the cam noise.
I'm not convinced yet! First step is to check the bucket 12 O'Clock witness marks I made last summer, to see if they have moved, before diving in too much.

Meanwhile i'm currently restoring a '03 XKR r̶u̶s̶t̶b̶u̶c̶k̶e̶t̶ coupe which is keeping me busy. So much for better corrosion protection on 'modern' cars. Thread over here.

I can't remember if I did this? I have the details here if needed.
