    Stone chip paint repair ...

I have an annoying 1mm size stone chip centre front bonnet (or 'hood' if you're reading this across The Pond! ) which has been there an age (OK, I know, I've been ignoring it! ) but it has now chosen to develop a flaky looking semi-circle surround telling me I ought to do something about it.

I'm finding mixed reviews regarding DIY kit 'Chipex'.

So I'm thinking it might be better to trust the so-called 'professionals' ... how about 'Chipsaway'?

Not even looked for the colour code tag yet, early days (just happened), but do need to get sorted.

I could ask my son's Detailer or indeed my IndyMech but I thought I'd seek trusted Forum views first.

    Any/all advice welcome.

Your colour code is JHV Zircon. I got a touchup from ebay but I cannot remember who I got it from. Good for small chips but if you have allowed it to get too bad then you will need to sand it down and respray.
Chipex kits are good but Chipsaway may do a better job.

I’ve used chipex for years now on my last two cars and found them brilliant.

Hey Rowley, small chips on the bonnet can be readily touched in to mask them somewhat, but will never disappear, you'll always know they're there.

If you've let it go and it's became worse I'd imagine Chipsaway will be able to help, but that said....

On an area like the bonnet, always in view and available for close up inspection, there's likely to be a "patch" that will be visible, I've seen it a few times on various vehicles.

By all means get a quote from Chipsaway or similar, but you may as well try and get a quote for a full bonnet respray from a trusted local paint shop and make your decision from there

I had a chips away repair on my Alfa Mito before it went back to the leasing company, it looked amazing until I jet washed the car. The edge of the repair lifted. I contacted chips away and they said you cannot jet wash a chips away repair....
