So reporting back. Unfortunately no success.

I installed a fresh version of Windows xp on VM and installed the 130 version as per Martyn Thompson's instructions. Same issue, SDD works but IDS does not fire up correctly which is the same problem as the VM version from the other thread.

if anyone has a 130 or later version, you may want to try going into program files > JLR > IDS > Runtime and try firing up Tabman.exe. That is the file that should fire up the legacy version.

I am going to try downloading a fresh version of the 125 VM and start again

Can I just jump in here? I'm reading this topic daily as I have a 'faint' interest in Diagnostics (used to dabble in the French fancies some years back (Lexia)) and can't work out if you are doing this for fun and as a challenge or are seriously having frustrating issues. LMK, cheers.

Like you Alex I tried running tabman.exe directly but it would not fire up in the v130 vm. I have heard some people saying that it's far more reliable when run in a non-virtual environment, but others do seem to have got SDD running in one.

Maybe it's an IDS specific issue. Has anyone else managed to get IDS running in a VM?

I couldn't get the older version of IDS to work on a VM on a modern machine. In the end, the only way I could get it to work was to install XP Pro on a very old Pentium II laptop and install 1.30 on that. It's slow, but it works.

Yes the whole VM trial and tribulations left me thinking the same, just grab a cheap old laptop and manually install IDS. Might well do that since my ICarsoft seems a bit flaky reading the ecm

It's what I did especially with, as you say, the vagaries of the iCarsoft with the ECU.

Ah, now I know what you are all talking about as I have had a tickle and... got a VM, with 2004 date set, SDD knocked the car so switched to IDS and.... it says I have an incorrect cable! Ballcox. When I disconnect though it says JLRMongoose is disconnected, when I reconnect it says incorrect cable. Is v130 too new for a 2000 car?

I think you too are now knee deep in the Unknown, rude dude!

I think the IDS module in the ready-made VMs are incomplete.

I see the mind Buddha updated his files in May, have you seen that or contacted him for assistance?:
    https://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=108460

If not then I think the only chance of success for IDS is to follow the guidance on the US forums:
    https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...5-03-a-201594/

Or make a full install on a dedicated XP laptop.

Luckily those only cost around £50 on eBay now.

I don't have an S Type now to try myself.

However I do have a copy of Delphi Dealer Level diagnostic software 2015 to try on my Mercs which brags of supporting Jaguars as well as every other marque if anyone wants to try it. The adapter and software cost £49 and I'm waiting for an opportunity to clear my old laptop and install it.

But it can't contain any control module software, which SDD does.

Or to be 100% safe, take your cats to a dealer or independent Shaguar Specialist who subscribes to the Jaguar online diagnostic system to upgrade your control module software.

Thanks Jim... According to the US forum link you provided, the IDS version 125 does not work with Mongoose pro cable. It needs a VCM module.

The issue described in the US forum is identical to mine, so if that is correct, this is not a problem with the VM or the software version I have.

So annoying after spending money and time trying to get this to work.

Can anyone in the forum dispute this and has managed to get version 125 to work with a mongoose pro cable on VM or standalone XP?? Keep in mind that we are talking about 1999 and early 2000 S types which can't use the later version SDD software.
