    Auto lights & wipers fault?

    Hi folks,

New issue has popped up in my 2010 3.0d portfolio and I hope you can help.
Auto lights remain on permanently unless manually turned off, regardless of light outside. Wipers wipe every 10 seconds or so regardless of weather condition, as if I have them set to manual intermittent.

Haven't read this anywhere else that I can see. I have taken the battery off for a few hours but to no avail. Any advice would be great before I ring up a specialist tomorrow (I have a 7 hour drive to Cornwall beginning at lunch time!!)

    Thanks,
    Jordan

Things like this can be caused by an under charged battery or failing ground point. For the lights, the next place would be the light sensor itself.

I would first, fully charge the battery and check/clean the ground points around the engine bay first and then see what happens.

I do not offer advice, I only say what I would do with the set of circumstances presented. Your choice always.

The battery is only a year old now, yuasa beast, cost a fortune! But I'll see how she is after the conciderable drive tomorrow, hopefully that will charge it up back to full, and if that doesn't rectify then I assume it'll be the module above the rear view mirror? Strangely the full beam assist still works effortlessly so It does seem to be working to some degree.

Yes, rule out the battery first, then I would be suspicious of the ambient light/rain sensor.

Battery must have been fully charged after 7 hours motorway cruise but no change to the operation of the auto lights and wipers. I'll get it booked into a specialist to diagnose but I was just curious as to whether any other members had run into this issue.

That's a brave statement. Moreso if the battery has been allowed to go partially flat.
