Both the voice and the phone control Bluetooth modules are located on the back of the kaiser panel behind the amp stack in the trunk. Both have a metal case.
The BTUM is a smaller black plastic box that is located in the center glove box.

This photo shows the phone control (bluetooth) module in the middle and the BTUM box on the right. (The mic is on the left, but it is only needed if you do not have voice control.)

This photo shows the Voice control module, it is a bit smaller than the phone control module:

There is however a chance that someone has fitted one of the later and alot better 2008-2010 bluetooth modules into your car. But again this will need to be somewhere in the trunk on the left.

This is a photo of the 2008-20010 x-type and XJ phone control (Bluetooth) module. With this there is no unit at all in the center glove box, but a bluetooth antenna is require. These are not the same size as the older units so they will not fit on the same mounting points.

This is a photo of the bluetooth antenna that is only needed with the 2008-2010 control module:

The photos above should make it easy to identify what modules you have.

absolutely. Just working out the kinks with the things that arent working. and so far i am left with:
    Non functioning VACM
A lean condition after going full throttle
a ticking noise thats possibly an exhaust leak that might be related to the lean condition
a shake in the front end.

Thank you for the photos! I will dig into this this weekend!

not a dead car. but a few dead brain cells.

Took the amp and cd changer out to look behind the Kaiser panel and guess what????

I do NOT have a VACM. The module that is back there is the Cell Phone Module for the bluetooth phone. There was just one module back there and I could have sworn I had voice control so that clouded my brain. But it was the phone module. so thats why my voice control didnt work but the bluetooth phone did.

So I bought the VACM to install.

Where can I get the cable for the Mic attachment between the Cell Phone module and the VACM and where can I get the D2B cables to add the VACM?

The d2b cable forms a closed loop going through each module in turn with no connectors unplugged. Jaguar made different d2b cables depending on the units fitted and the number of connectors needed.
However to add another unit you can use any D2B cable, a simple male to female lead is fine. (About £10 on e-bay) This is because all the d2b connectors can be taken apart to add another connector into the loop. Within the connectors are arrows showing the direction of the light in the loop. As far as I know it does not matter what order the modules are in as long as they are all in the loop and the in/out optic cables are in the correct way in the plugs.

Regarding the microphone if your car had either voice control or Bluetooth factory fitted it will have a mic fitted inside the interior light consol.
However if it did not have Bluetooth or voice from new it will not have a built in mic.
If it had a Bluetooth module only fitted later by Jaguar as an accessory it will have a surface mounted mic. as seen on the left in the first photo I posted of the various modules.
In each case if the Bluetooth module only was fitted from new or later by Jaguar as an accessory it will have the shorting link in the voice control module electrical connector.
If you fit a voice control module you will not need this shorting link.
If you do not fit the voice control module you will have to make up the shorting link yourself as these were only available as part of the Bluetooth kit.

I would also guess that you will have to fit the mic as well.

When purchasing the voice control unit, it will only work with the modules that were fitted in the car it came from. So, if the car it came from had no CD changer the CD changer voice commands will not work and if it did not have a phone (Bluetooth) module the phone voice commands will not work.
The only way to make the voice control unit work with modules that were not in the car it came from is to use the SDD software to get the voice control unit to re-learn what units are on the system. (The units will all work with the buttons and the screen, it is only the voice commands that will not work.)
