Post Edit function - No longer available

    Anyone else noticed this?

I appreciate after a period of time the ability to edit one of your older posts is removed.

    However,

I cannot edit a post in my showthread published only 3 days ago.

    Anyone any ideas?

I think that changed quite a while ago - I had to PM Ian to have something edited a while back.
    ex - 2002 X-Type 2.5 V6; 1995 XJ Sport 3.2; 1998 Mercedes C180 Elegance; VW Passat 2.0TDI (140); Audi A4 Avant 2.0TDI; Nissan Qashqai 1.5dCi; Current - 2007 XJ 4.2 V8 Sovereign, and occasionally an Electric Wheelchair!

It wasn't me! A big boy done it and ran away.

I'm aware of what and why the Mods had to do what they did, but this threads initial post is not an hour old and already I cannot edit the post.

    Something is not right.

On some other forums a 15 minute edit period is quite normal.

Thanks Geoff, wasn't aware of that.

However it's not been the norm on this great Forum.

My 2nd post is now not editable at 30 minutes old.

Got to go to work now, hopefully the mods will stop by and advise if we have an issue or add comment and/or reasons for any change made.

    Hi,

Yes the restriction was rolled back ... it used to be a longer time period.

Because of this spammers started to post spammy links editing old posts.

Unfortunate but we get 100-500 spams attempts a day !

My thread (https://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=117701) not good enough huh? Typical Northerners, can't even skim-read!

if I need to edit a post,it is usually to correct a speling mishtake which I spot just after hitting submit!

So a 30 minute correction time works just fine for me.....

2000 S Type manual(now sold and replaced with a Transit Connect that ate it's engine in Spain and replaced with another Connect known as the Micro Stealth Camper) BMW E30 cabbie in the very rare neon green colour and a Nissan Micra for 'er indoors!

    It changed yesterday, 25 minutes.

Rory, can you make it 24 hours please?

Sometimes my battery goes flat and I don't spot my mistakes until my phone is charged again next day.

    Thanks.

I appreciate the issue with spammers is a hindrance at best and a damned PITA at worst but,

    What exactly are they doing?

Surely any spammer cannot edit a post, only the original poster.

If they are managing to join and then wreak havoc on threads by posting crap, etc, how does this affect whether a post owner has the ability to edit a post?

Sorry if I'm missing the obvious, but I'm struggling to get my head round it.

If I have to ask a mod to allow me to edit one of my threads, then I will run the risk of becoming a PITA.

My issues, fixes & mods thread being one I regularly add links to the 1st post of what I or someone else has done.

I sincerely hope the mods will ease off this restriction.
