Low batteries in these cars can cause some strange issues, but they do seem to get blamed for every type of problem. A specific fault with the parkbrake would to me appear to be outside the normal symptoms of a faulty battery. It seems more likely that it's simply a case of a faulty park brake actuator? Surely that would be the first thing to investigate.

In order of elimination, voltage checks are the easiest and then move on to the stuff nobody wants to do like get under the car and have a look, operate the suspected list of components etc.

I try to go for cheapest first, try to save our members some money.

    PS,

I'd be changing the battery as well as lubricating all I could, Jim's advice is sound and probably well overdue.
