As previously documented by me on this forum I turned to the not road- legal 100 W option: during the week I work away and my digs is down dark narrow country roads. Worked fine with no oncoming driver flashes. I think because they ran so hot they kept blowing so I replaced all four with legal extra brightness options: I can't recall which... Phillips I think, but all the major brands seem to get good reviews. Not as good as the Xenons on the Wifes Mini, but miles better than standard.
My advice, sorry for repetitions:
Check the polycarbonate 'glass' and carefully polish out any bloom: I use Farecla rubbing compound with care and lots of water. Some swear by toothpaste. Finish with a good body polish.
Check the silvering hasn't deteriorated.
Have the aim properly checked and adjusted on all four.
