    Knocking sound then sudden death!

Oh you gotta love these cars haven't you? So there I was coming home from rehearsing with the band tonight with a spring in my step, and as I was ambling down a country lane a noise from the bonnet suggested one cylinder wasn't happy. As I approached the junction to the A24 the engine just died. Kaput. Nothing. It cranks, but won't fire. At all. Got a tow home (terrifying as Mrs. RF900R was in charge of the tow vehicle, but she did a class job).

I'm guessing a fuel issue. I changed the injectors recently, but it's done a fair few trips since then, and one giving up is likely, but not all four. So, fuel pump perhaps? Any thoughts / ideas / offers to repair it free of charge gratefully received!

Is the EML on at least?
Gonna be tough guessing without codes.
Start by checking the filter for tiny shiny bits......

Yeah, I was worried about that. The fuel filter was changed recently at the MOT, so a good place to start I guess. No lights on at all, not EML or flashing coil. No warning lights came on before it died on me either, which is somewhat curious.

Just tried to crank it this morning and it just turns over and not firing. There's a puddle of something shiny on the pavement in front of the car, about a two feet away, but nothing seems to be under the car itself, but that could easily be from any of the other wrecks that get parked there.

Just check all your fluid levels to be sure it's not from yours.

You will need to check for codes otherwise you are getting nowhere fast - code readers are cheap and a generic OBDII one will tell you most things.

If it stuttered, slowed then died it's likely fuel/mechanical, if it stopped dead like someone turned off the key then it's likely electrical.
It could be as cheap and simple as a cam sensor or as expensive as a pump or timing chain tensioner - but without codes you are just going to waste time and money guessing.

I was thinking along the lines of cam sensor too but can't remember it it would give an EML or not?
