    S Type radio

Hi all, got a 55 plate S Type 2.7d with the standard sat-nav and radio set-up.
Sat nav has just decided that the dvd installed is not for navigation.....
Also I am sick to death of the appalling radio choice, hence the query......
Can I replace the radio (single DIN Type) with a standard Type head unit or will it cause all kinds of grief and give the car a hissy fit?
Would be leaving the a/c etc. controls in place with the screen.
    All advice gratefully received
    Cheers

I’ve moved the thread to the in car entertainment section as I think it’ll get more traffic here, with it being in a number of Jaguar vehicles of the same period.

    Hi Grumpy,
I do not class myself as an expert but have recently replaced my standard S-Type radio with the Optional Sat Nav.
The first thing to say is that 2012 sat nav DVDs (alas the latest available for the S-Type) are quite reasonable from non-Jaguar sources.
Second, if it is your navigation unit that is faulty, these are available for £60 upwards on eBay and simple to swap.
Because Jaguar in car entertainment is a highly integrated system replacing the radio portion in the head unit with aftermarket will kill all components, including nav, CD changer, phone, voice, etc. You could fit a standard S-Type head unit (like the one I removed from my car) but you would loose navigation and need to rerout the climate control from a module above your glove box to the top of the standard head unit.
What aspect of the radio are you fed up with? Is it the audio quality or the operation?
If it is the audio quality, then you could consider retrofitting the 'premium audio option' which involves replacing the four door speakers, adding subwoofers to the parcel shelf and fitting an Alpine amplifier in the boot. Your car is prewired for amp and the premium speakers in the doors.

Found it! The thing that I am most hacked-off with is the parlous state of the radio stations that the OEM radio picks-up. Being a less mainstream listener, I really need a DAB unit and/or one with an Aux jack inbuilt.
I currently use a Roidmi Bluetooth/FM transmitter and stream through my phone, which when it works is excellent - when it works!
As you say, if I replace the head unit, I lose all sorts of stuff.
Looked at one of the add-on DAB units (Pure 600), but that was suffering with interference, apparently caused in part, by the heated screen elements interfering with the screen mounted aerial, and these units don't have the option of connecting to an external aerial (Bee-sting, shark-fin etc.)....
Hey ho, will keep looking, thanks for the reply though,
    Cheers

    Hi Grumpy,
Have a read of the following which suggests a few relevant alternatives:
    https://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=39352
    2005 3.0 S-Type (and 2000 3.0 S-Type)
Retrofitted: CD Changer, Bluetooth, Voice, Sat Nav
