    Spinning Off JLR

Tata getting ever more desparate for outside cash with all that's going on. Reports of them hiving off the Motors division being confirmed in the global press now. Besides distancing the main group from the taint of the credit downgrade Tata Motors is going through, they're clearly hoping that it will make someone more willing to pour some cash in. The electrification agreements with BMW could complicate things though. Things could go very MG Rover for JLR if they're not careful!

Testing times. Tata say they are not looking to sell. They've done alright with Jaguar up to now and it's brand has gained strength as far as I can tell.

The demand for electric has given most manufacturers something to split their R&D budgets, plus they need to guess what govs will demand is acceptable.

Add now a drop in world activity and everyone is anxious about what will be left to salvage afterwards.

So maybe not a problem specific to Jaguar but to most car makers.

If they all get knobbled, only little cars will be built as car makers are massively scaled down, so simple little machines that can be built quickly might be all we can get soon.

Survival isn't as much about making small cars as it is about sharing components (just look how many JLR vehicles have the same door handles) and wringing as many models out of one platform as possible. Both of which make spinning off JLR more attractive to Tata. Following the PSA/FCA merger the plan is to have 70% of all vehicles on just two platforms, that's vehicles from Peugeot, Citroen/DS, Open/Vauxhall, Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge, Alfa, Lancia, Maserati etc. There's barely any crossover with JLR and Tata platforms, and that's unlikely to change. And Tata has had a further rating downgrade.

Hope not but we already have the Aygo and Citygo.

New cars are losing out on V8 models because the emissions challenge is too much.

The V8 Aygo would have been a scorcher.
