Any diabetics on the forum ?

Ok I have to go without chocolate cakes and sweets but I had no idea that white bread is not allowed and only small amounts of wholemeal bread is ok to eat because of the carbohydrates as your body turns these into sugar
Then im told only small amounts of potatoes (carbohydrates again) now that's not good as I live on potatoes what the heck can I have to replace them ?

Then there's condiments like tomato sauce and salad cream I love both of these but they have to much sugar and salt but again what to replace them with ?

Now im used to eating a lot of fruit but apparently to much is now not good for me yes that's right to much messes with my blood sugar levels but I can not find out how much is too much

If anyone has any advice I would be most grateful to hear from you

Thanks in advance to any members that post

Can you replace potatoes with noodles?

This is a whole new world for your domestic staff to explore, care fully examining food labels to make sure that banned substances are not present.

    Is chicken allowed,and eggs?

Sorry I can’t help mate but I don’t envy you a diet of dried crackers and water. Surely the hospital should put you in touch with a dietitian.

    Thanks for the sympathy Jim

Getting to see a dilatation may take sometime at the moment as they haven't said a word about one yet but I am going to ask when the check my bloods and BP Thursday

I still haven't seen a DR since the hospital only talked to them over the phone

Payno, I’ve been a diagnosed type 2 diabetic since Oct 2006, tablet and insulin, now I’m not the most disciplined diabetic, but I do have pretty good control of my levels, despite having quite few of the major side affects etc. Basically, you can eat anything you want, BUT in moderation, you can still eat chocolate, sweets, white bread, pasta, potatoes etc, just in moderation. The biggest problem us diabetics face is the uninformed people, who firmly believe that you get diabetes from eating TOO much sugar etc, which is absolute bullsh*t. Virtually every living organism needs sugar to operate, it’s your fuel, as a male adult you need your regular daily amount of sugar, just to get out of bed in the morning. It’s the excess sugar your body can’t handle as a diabetic.

Just remember, everything in MODERATION and you’ll be perfectly fine.

    Send your domestic staff!

I have been tested multiple times for diabeties, mostly as a stab in the dark as both grandfather's were diabetic,so I consider myself as a 'marginal diabetic' and try to be healthy in my eating and drinking....not indulging in known 'sweet' things like sweeties and milk chocolate digestive bikkies....I eat the dark choccie one's sparingly...

    BUT;

You only live once, and the doctor's always seem to hate the food you enjoy the most!

I have an aversion to added sweeteners so I was pleased to find that Heinz do a no added sugar Tomato sauce, if you can find it. It doesn't have artificial sweeteners either. There are many "No added sugar" products. Obviously if you don't object to artificial sweeteners you can buy the products that substitute them for sugar.

The government's sugar tax has meant that many sweet things have substituted other sweeteners for sugar to avoid higher prices so you may find that there are plenty of products that are suitable.

I have the exactly opposite problem, I don't like, or wish to consume, artificial sweeteners. Identifying the products that don't have either added sugar or a substitute can be difficult but they can be found.
