    Welsh Ownership Thread

Well picked up the XJ today, 3.0d Portfolio, 2010 with 99k on the clock.

Drove it back from London to Bristol sensibly, in part to a ton of 50mph average speed cameras. Averaged 48mpg.

Very impressed with the car generally, few little things will need tidying on it. Both key fobs are also splitting on the soft black plastic which is annoying.

Lots of questions to follow (as well as some pics)

What's the tool to use to see what car came with, is it from VIN code?

Nice one. Looking forward to the photos.

To get the build sheet you will need to sign up to Topix. Just pretend you're a small business as it's not for individuals.

My washer jets don’t appear to be working, one very small spit and then nothing.... have topped up reservoir so not sure if blocked lines, they look as if someone has had a go at them as just rubber tubing at end, no nozzle?

Passenger door didn’t seem to open from outside intermittently, think the door motors are renowned for that? Will look up Topix now and see what’s what on it.

The nozzles are on the wiper arms.

Sounds like you need a new door lock, it's a known problem.

Yes the tubes are fed into gap on wiper arm but aren’t nozzles at their end if that makes sense.

Do you know how much I should budget for a lock from an Indy supply and fit please?

Nice one WB, glad all went well

As she's got a few years a nd a couple of thousand miles under her belt, she may have a few issues, likely none too serious and something to work through

Sounds like you had a good run home and a chance to enjoy her, great mpg.

Looking forward to a full report, details of any issues and or changes / upgrades / mods all to come in the future no doubt, along with the obligatory pics

Good to have you with us

Thanks Jim, what is the alternative used on here instead of photobucket?

One of the first cosmetic jobs I want to do on here is paint callipers but I don’t have a trolley jack, or a clue where/how to lift from. Do I need a long armed socket/wrench too?

Hey buddy, use Postimage.org if I were you, most of us do but there are other options available, it's free and easy to use.

Jacking points are easy, as std where they normally are if you get down you'll see them easily enough, failing that a quick check on the book will show you I'm sure.

Long armed socket not necessary, but I'd invest in one of those plastic sleeved sockets to help protect the alloys, cheap enough at around £5.00 usually

You can buy the small basic trolley jacks from around £30 apiece and they work just fine, at least a 2 ton variant, which is what I currently use

I'm just about to invest in a couple of new ones, the 2.5ton aluminium racing trolley jack from SGS, low entry / high lift with dual pistons for quick lift, long handle with padded protection for only £122.39 each

I'd recommend something like those if you intend to use them fairly often, much batter and will last a long time.

    Looking forward to pics

    Welcome aboard, sir.

    SWB or LWB?

Give me some colour details, and I'll add you to the list (https://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=118845).

Passenger door motor. An hours labour (& £126.92p + VAT for the motor) from my local indy in October last year.

Driver's door motor. Exactly the same in December.

Thank you Mac, SWB and "Ultimate Black Metallic"?

I've registered with TOPix but can't seem to get a print out, guess I need to subscribe?
