Yes, another 'water in passenger footwell' thread

Whilst dusting and hoovering inside my car yesterday I noticed that the mat and carpet in the passenger footwell was slightly damp. This evening after returning home from a 25 mile round trip I could see droplets of water dotted across the carpet (left the mat out yesterday to dry out). First thought obviously is the old duck bill issue, but my car is a 5 litre, albeit a fairly early one - were they still susceptible to this problem?

Other thing that occurred to me is that I just got a new windscreen fitted about 2 weeks ago by Autoglass. After I noticed the damp carpet yesterday I sprayed a good lot of water over the roof and windscreen with a hose while I washed the wife's car and left it for a while and checked later. There was no more dampness in the footwell than before I did that. Is that sufficient testing to rule out a bad seal in the new windscreen or would I need to move the car in order to get the water moving about? Any way to check if it's definitely the duckbill issue (if applicable)?

Niall, I had this checked out with my 09 XK and yes, some of the very early 5.0L cars were susceptible. Luckily mine was just outside the affected VIN range.

I know that on my old XK8 when I had a windscreen replacement that they didn't replace the tube to the drain on the passenger side. Am unsure if the same set up on the X150 or the 5l

Also read somewhere that very early VIN's of the 5l still used the same duckbill assembly as the 4.2 but you'll need to do some googling for that.

Sorry to hear of your dampness

Two posts in and nobody's made a "moist" joke yet, gents you're all slipping

Thanks for the responses. Jim, don't suppose you know what that VIN range is? My car is B35848 so only a few thousand in from the generally accepted cut-over of B32753...

According to the parts catalogue the new duck bill was introduced at VIN B34499 which is part way through the MY2010 production run. Therefore, its only the early 5.0l models that were affected and all the 4.2l models.
So you may be lucky on that score.
I assume you’ve checked the drain on that side.

You are looking at Vin B00001 to B33100 2007-2009 with the problem. Looks like all the 4,2ltr numbers

Top gents, both of you - thanks again. So different numbers there but my own VIN is still comfortably beyond both of those. I've not checked anything yet Jim, just opened up the workshop manual now. I guess you mean something under the panel at the bottom of the screen?

You could just look up in the footwell and see if it comes from the blower?
