    Electrical issues

    Hi.

I'm new here and this is my first post.
I have had quite an array of experience working on cars, however, that does not include the more modern technology that is featured in my 2009 jag xf s 3.0 diesel. The issues below have stumped me.
I have only had the car for circa 3 months and it has been perfect and a pleasure to drive until now.

The battery started dying, and needed jump starting a couple of times.
I replaced the battery with a brand new unit (correct size and power etc.)

Since I changed the battery, the car now starts everytime, however...
It now always (from start up) has the main battery warning light and "!" mark on.
The heated seats no longer work.
The heater only blows cold air.
The rotating vents open and close randomly independently from each other.

I presume the main battery warning light puts the car into a sort of electrical limp mode and prevent high load electrical items such as the heated seats to work?

The car has a 15 month warranty I bought with AUTOGUARD, however upon looking further into it, the only garage that they approve and will pay to work in the car, is halfords auto centre. So I am reluctant to let them hit it with a hammer before trying to solve the issues myself, with the help and experience of the nice people on this forum

    Thanks,
    Tom

I was just looking that info up - looks like you need to register a new battery with the BMS, the Icarsoft does this amongst other things.

Currently on offer, may get one myself !!

Did you get the car from a dealer, within the last 6 months? If so take it back to them and ask them to fix it (irrespective of any warranty), they have an obligation under Consumer Rights Act 2015 to fix any issues during first 6 months. Approach them reasonably.

Hi, just make sure it is the iCarsoft LR V2.0, the earlier one doesn't do the BMS resetting. Phil

    Hi guys.
Thankyiu all for the suggestions, and it does look like it needs the battery to be registered with the BMS.

I have managed to get the heaters working (I presume it just needed some time to sort itself out).

I am taking my car to a mate that works at a very reputable garage with l the kit, so hopefully his snap on diagnostic tools can reset it.
Worst case scenario I will buy one of the icarsoft tools.

    Thanks

According to what i've read in the workshop manual, the BMS should sort itself out after a few trips. Also, are you sure that the new battery was fully charged, they are not always full, so it's worth checking as a low battery will reveal all sorts of weird behaviour with the electrics.

    Hi,

Yes I have read this too, however it has been over a week with probably about 25 trips now and it still has the light on.

    Thanks

This is probably an obvious (noob) question if the car as start/stop, you did buy an AGM battery?
