    Engine light- fixed for £3!

    Hi All

just post so if anyone else has same problem this might help. Was about 20 miles from home and engine managment light came on, didn't go into "limp home mode" which was lucky as I was on duel carridge way!

Anyone,a sleepless night as i thought how expensive it might be, took to local jag chap, plugged in sensor and said oxygen sensors, 2 had failed or something, thought oh no! he lifted bonnect, took engine bay cover? off and a pipe had split, only about 9 inches long (oooh er mrs) only 3 quid for new one (its been redesigned as common fault) and job done. had to charge hour labour as fit me in that day, ahead of about 6 other cars and they used machine so came to about 60 quid end, even so, a damn sight less than i had expected as assumed the worst!!

so if your engine light comes on, hope this might help you.

    Regards,

    Matt

    Good result!
o2 sensor faults are often shown by the ECU when it's another fuel/air mixture problem, it's good advice to check the pipework before buying new sensors. Nice one for mentioning it for other's benefit.

well, in hindsight yes but i assumed the worse, they had the part there, i suspect many other garages would of just replaced the oxygen sensors, or spend the entire hour looking for problem, the reason they charged me full hour was because the equipment he said costs alot to update a year and hence they need to charge for it, they top blokes there and never done anything to question there skill/honesty, so i was pleased they found it out there and then

considering i rung up that morning, looked at it that lunch, and back to work within the hour, im not complaining

Just hope it helps someone else if they have same problem

Its very rare that both o2 sensors would go off together, but the split in the pipe causes this and usually limp home mode and not being able to rev >3000rpm ensues.
It takes under 2 mins to replace the pipe for the newer sturdier one from Jag and that includes opening and closing the bonnet and removing the plastic engine cover which is held on by 3 screws.
Local dealer sells lots of these pipes and its a common failure as its a breather pipe from the rocker cover to the inlet manifold and the oil lies inside the bottom of the pipe which deteriorates it over time.
Ive posted a thread on this and commented numerous times and it seems a few people on a few forums have had this same problem
For those who are unsure here is the pipe

I've had this problem, for now i have just taped all down the split but I'm trying to find a replacement part on the net but I'm struggling, can someone point me in the right direction? Even a part number would be great, I've found this number W0133-1657832 but because it doesn't look like my old part I'm not sure.....

    Cheers John

    John
    That is the right part.
The reason it looks different to the old pipe is its a much sturdier improvement over the inferior quality old pipe
Cant find my receipt with the part number off hand.
The part number you listed isnt a Jag number.
If you ring your dealer with the last 6 of your VIN and ask them for the part number of the pipe they will tell you.Its only around £5 even from a dealer.

If it was this you can tape the old dammaged pipe which will fix until you get the new one.MIL will go out after 3 cold/hot cycles
