Angry Navigation Discs FAQ & Links to official sources

    Hello All,

First off, DO NOT DISCUSS PIRATE COPIES OR WEBSITES SELLING PIRATE COPIES
The links below take you to the official Jaguar endorsed websites which sell new, original discs.
There are dozens of websites selling illegal copies, this is not relevant to what we are doing here.

Second, DO NOT ASK HOW TO MAKE COPIES OF ORIGINAL DISCS
You simply won't get an answer...or maybe a mod will delete your post...

Now, there is nothing wrong with buying & selling original discs secondhand through sites like ebay.
In fact, many people will sell their older disc to recover some money after buying a new one.
It's a good way to go, so long as you buy the right disc for your car

    Here are the official sites for X-Type, S-Type, XJ, XF & Late Model XK;
UK, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Russia, South Africa, Middle East HERE
    USA, Canada, Mexico HERE
    Australia & New Zealand HERE

To my knowledge there are maps available for other countries, but you need to contact Jaguar Customer Service to ask.
It's also possible that discs from other brands that use Denso navigation systems might work, but this needs further investigation.

    Which discs for which models?
The X-Type, S-Type facelift (2003MY / 02 Plate onwards) and XJ X350 use the same Denso nav unit & the discs are interchangeable.
The S-Type pre-facelift is no longer supported for new maps.
The XK before 2006 (non alloy body) used an Alpine nav unit, which is no longer supported for new maps.
The XJ's X308 & X300 are a mystery at this point in time...suspected to be the same as the steel-body XK.
The Alloy Body XK & the XF use the same discs. Note that these are not interchangeable with the X-Type, S-Type & XJ X350
The new XJ X351 has a hard-disk with the maps instead of a DVD, you need to contact Jaguar about the updates.

How do I install the new disc?
Luckily there is a how to guide HERE

    I have an X-Type, S-Type, XJ X350 and I can't enter a destination on the move
UK/Europe discs from 2008 onwards has a software update which allows this. Once you've installed the disc, you have the functionality. We have since found out that the North American discs do not allow entry on the move, at all, ever. Not sure about the AUS/NZ discs, yet...

I have a Japanese Import & need to update the software for use in New Zealand
First you need to load a Western Europe disc, preferably 2010, this will update the software from the JP version.
Then load up the AUS-NZ disc, and it should work. If you have JaguarVoice then it'll still be in Japanese
But you could replace the module with one from Europe if you really wanted to...

I bought a disc from "a website" and it doesn't load.
Well, you get what you pay for....

    Excellent post, Cambo!

The p/n for the latest (I think) X100 UK & RoI disc is 4W83-10E898-AA.
Any idea of the p/n for the Europe equivalent?

Re: Navigation Discs FAQ & Links to official sources

    Thanks!

I'm really not sure about the X100 from 1996-2006, and the X300/305/308 from the same time. It's literally a big black hole for information. All I can find is that the X100 used an Alpine nav unit, that is no longer supported, and the last update was 2004...

Re: Navigation Discs FAQ & Links to official sources

This is excellent and it even includes a source for New Zealand navigation discs!

I would like to add the instructions to make Navigation work in New Zealand with the disc from Whereismaps as it will save Kiwis a lot of trouble (hopefully they find this!). You only need the Whereis Jaguar DVD - you don't need to source a Europe/UK version to update the software/firmware of the Navigation / SatNav unit.

These are the instructions for the S-Type (2002 onwards), X-Type and XJ (2003 to 2009). I do not know the deal with the new XK, XF or new XJ, other than they have a separate set-up.

Make sure the car is in a well ventilated place (do this outside as you need to have the engine running to minimise the risk of the battery going flat!)

    1. Turn the ignition on
    2. Insert the Nav disc into the Navigation unit in the boot - if the Japanese one is in there you can get rid of it.
    3. Turn the engine on (this is so your battery doesn't die mid-way through the software re-flash and brick your Navigation unit)
    4. Press and hold the Menu button next to the touch screen display.
    5. While holding the Menu button, press and hold the Phone button. Keep holding both buttons until a screen displays with a number pad requesting a 3 digit code.
    6. Enter in the code "917" and press OK/Enter on the touchscreen.
    7. Press the S/W Update button on the touchscreen in the lower right corner
    8. Accept the next dialogs making sure you want to update the software (there are two dialogs)
    9. Wait for the software to update. This can take 5 - 10 minutes, but just let it run until it is updated (took about 5 minutes in the XJ today)
    10. The screen should re-start and go to the normal screen. Voila! Your Navigation unit is updated and you can use the NZ maps.

Hopefully this saves a lot of trouble for New Zealanders searching for how to get their Japanese imported Jaguar's touchscreen / Navigation unit to work!

A number of members (UK) have tried updating the software using the above method and it can freeze the system causing problems that need have had to be fixed at a dealer (£££)!!
If you're in the UK and dont have an updated disc dont use this method...if you're in the UK and do have an updated disc the system should update itself anyway without having to do this

Re: Navigation Discs FAQ & Links to official sources

Thanks Buck, you do need to have the latest NZ disc from Whereis which will have the latest software.
The two Jags we have (2001 X-Type and 2004 XJ had out-dated Japanese discs (you can tell by the green background on the logo screen v the black background of the latest).

Problem is is that the system won't update itself when you put in a new Nav disc and you do need to force it to update using the above method. But as always, you do so at your own risk

Re: Navigation Discs FAQ & Links to official sources

    I do have a question.

If i use one disk to update software, can I use older disks after that?
I only need the logo to be changed with the black and white one

I also don't see eastern europe anywhere for x-type and I am sure there is

Yes, it keeps the black/white logo, and updates the colour scheme to the maps, but the map content stays old.

Yes, there is a "pair" of discs for the X-Type, S-Type, X350 which is both West and East Europe.
The West disc is the same as the part numbers given above, I don't know the part number for the East disc.
These very rarely if ever pop up on eBay 2nd hand.
But there seems to be some new ones available, at the new price of course....
