    choice of aftermarket double din stereo

    Hi there

    Just decided to upgrade audio on my 04 estate, and would like to use double din unit. Don't want to watch DVDs in my car but i want Bluetooth conectivity. At the moment i got Parrot MKI9200 and its nice thing, but i want even better quality. (btw if anyone would like to buy Parrot MKi9200 with x-type harness please PM or bartnik.bartnik@gmail.com ) Anyway here is what i found.

    All of them got Bluetooth , about 4 x 50W RMS ,variable key illumination and USB / line in ports
    Price is similar - about £130 - £150
    Here is questions:

    Does anyone got them fitted in x-type before (I know about depth problem )?
    Which one would look best on x-type dash ?
    Thanks in advance

    JVC or Sony. Only ones that'll last.

    Check the measurments for the depth, they can be a problem!

    I have a sony xav, I had to modify the fascia with fibreglass so the head unit sat on the front and not in the grooved seat as the depth.

    There's some picks on the forum somewhere and few others have had success in sorting it

    Thanks for info - will read more.
    Just checked and XAV depth is 7 inch (17,8cm)
    Kenwood DPX-405BT which I decided to buy, is only 15.7 cm so fingers crossed

    BTW. Parrot is reserved for jagryan85 so please stop asking about it

    All good choices but I believe none are 50W RMS - that's peak power. Most are rated between 20W - 22W RMS - sufficient enough power for the X-Type with its arch-curved interior cabin.

    You are 100% right :" built-in MOSFET amplifier (22 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channels)" . My mistake
    It still must be 100% more than factory - non amp stereo have.
    Anyway - I think that if I use small active sub (got VIBE CBR12 of my previous car) + all new 2 way speakers in doors (Hertz 17) , results should be quite good ( not a techno/dance/hiphop fan)

    @BARTNIK

    Yes the stock non-amplified system is rated between 8W - 11W RMS (25W - 35W Peak) depending on the year. I too have a non-amplified aftermarket solution that's rated at 17W x 4 RMS (50W Peak) and I just love sitting in the car while parked under the port listening to my music.

    Heres my Sony XAV;

    I had to fibre glass mod the fascia so the unit sat at the front and then vinyl wrapped it for a finish.

    Good job Nyces - I hope mine will just fit flat (I know that its way too optimistic )
    Meanwhile new radio arrived - now just waiting for fascia, autoleads stalk control interface and antenna converter. Will post some pictures and I'll try to take measurements of available space in dash

    Ok it fits

    So for future generations - max depth of double din is 15,7 - 16 cm (don't really care about inches )

    Improvement in sound is massive. Now all I need to do is upgrade speakers.
    BTW stalk conector adapter from Autoleads does not work - will send it back and get Connect2 (10 pounds cheaper)
