I have read all of that info thanks, but I don't think it's applicable to a UK spec 2001 s type, only thing I need to do is reset the radio code. Fiddling with the up/down switches made no difference.

Did you clamp the glass when it was almost at the top of travel?

    That's news to me.

The window will only go up in short steps to avoid strangling someone because it doesn't know where the frame is until you take it to fully closed then hold the "up" switch for a few seconds so it will know and remember the fully closed position.

Then take it down to fully open and hold "down" for a few seconds to set that position too. Repeat for the other windows.

If it still only steps up after you do this, then the new regulator is not 100% compatible or the window is jamming in the channel.

It's not location it's learning, but the current drain when the motor stalls. ( if it knew where the frame was it could still happily chop off a finger or strangle someone)

It should only matter for one touch, if the motor stalls even with the button pressed during part travel then something is wrong.

I spent 2 days just on this regulator, removed it 3 times to ensure nothing was being trapped and greasing with the silicon grease, clamped it in the up position, tried it many times with the engine running to boost the battery voltage, tried the resetting using the up and down switches, got fed up in the end and just decided that the replacement motor is not suitable for the job. As I also said previously the original motor is not interchangeable. After all it is only the pax window and I have decided to live with that.

The regulator repair kits are so cheap (£15 a pair for mine), is it worth putting equally old brittle plastic clips in?

I thought that too. That's why I went for the kit instead.
