I'm just about finished with the bench testing and getting ready to put it into the jag.
There are still two things which are concerning me.
Firstly I've had two failed RTD (PCB800099-V.9) boards. Now onto my third. Nothing obvious, seems to be OK for a few hours then the LCD just momentarily flicks off then on again. It does this momentary screen blanking randomly for some time and then eventually dies. I was wondering whether I have the correct firmware file? (I'm using a 800x480 TN94 with 650cd/m2.) I have been using Flash-546.bin from the web page link.

My second issue is using the arduino leonardo USB keyboard control with the 5V line cut. The odriod only receives and responds when the USB 5V is intact. If the 5V is cut there is no response, even though the arduino is powered and doing all its normal functions. The same with connecting on the laptop with the arduino gui, it only works with the 5V signal intact on the USB. Any ideas?

I've not come across that problem with the RTD board. I think 3 in a row is a bit too much of a co-incidence to be faulty boards. It possibly could be that your LCD panel backlight is drawing too much current?

With the Arduino problem, do you have the Odroid powered from a 5v USB PSU wired from the head unit 12v supply? There needs to be a common 0V line between the Odroid PSU and the Arduino so that the USB data lines are referencing the same ground. If you are using a separate PSU for the Odroid then this could be the problem.

Hi Chris, I've just downloaded your guide and just had to congratulate you on this body of work. Obviously a lot of time and effort went into making this and allowing us all to share in your knowledge and experience.

    Very well done,

Bringing this thread into 2020. Happy New Year everyone!

I've got my unit back on the workbench to chase the brightness issue, and I've found one curious thing. The V2 guide replaces the beefy 470k Ohm 5W resistor on the LCD driver board with a puny 220 Ohm 1/4w one. Is this the key to providing dimming by PWM? Since my build started out as a v3.4, should I replace the massive cement resistor with a tiny one if I want to get the brightness under control?

    Happy New Year!

I would recommend you replace the big old resistor with the new type, as the old version generates a large amount of heat which is eliminated with the 220 Ohm version.

To enable PWM dimming you need to modify the RTD board in accordance with the instructions here: https://sites.google.com/willcoxonli...v2/video-board

Oh yeah, I modified the RTD board practically as soon as you released the guide. I just haven't found the time to dig into why the brightness controls weren't working, so I'm comparing the state of my build with your current v2 site.

Also, your v2 site doesn't mention the wire soldered to TP24 of the original LCD driver board anywhere, except the circuit diagram on the contents page.

    Hi,

I'm using sketch version 4, all seems good, however, I've noticed that if I enable the native Jag navigation mode (press NAV for a few seconds) then the screen changes to the original (VGA) and the Jaguar navigational acceptance screen comes up but the touch screen is unresponsive. The touchscreen is fine in the other native Jag modes. I had a look at the code but couldn't see anything standing out. Any hints or suggestions?

    Thanks Andrew.

    Returning to this issue:

PWM brightness control doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure if it's my wiring or something in the code, but the Nav panel Menu > Brightness controls had no effect.
For anyone upgrading an RTD board from the 3.x mod to the 4.x with brightness control: it helps to cover up the solder pads where you remove the beige 4-pin connector. The root of my lack of brightness control was a short, where the three-way joint between the two new resistors and the capacitor were touching the existing solder pad for the old connector. I added a bit of insulating tape and it worked straight away!
