Hi bit of a heads up my friend has a 2.7 tdv6 in a 07 discovery 3 local garage recovered it after it died . on investigation they found the cam belt tensioner had sheared off with the corner of the oil pump attached.
The tensioner is not seized it was the oil pump that failed where the tensioner bolts through it.belt ,tensioner ,water pump changed 2 years ago any one heard of this in the jags
cheers dave

Was his Disco a 6 speed manual or auto ?

The discovery's may well get treated with less finesse than the cars.

There are certainly failures across the board with the 2.7 / 3.0 - RR's / Disco's / XJ's etc

Servicing more frequently that JLR recommend and keeping an eye on the oil level will help longevity.

Replacing oil pumps in the Discovery's seems to be done often at the same time as the timing belt job.

Hi
it is a auto 50,000 miles full service history very pampered had a oil service a month ago .when the belt was done he was advised to do the water pump that’s all.it seems Land Rover are aware of this fault and beefed up the pump body.to late for him £4250 recon unit

Wow , that's a low mileage to lose an engine ..........

Is that £4250 a recon fitted by JLR or elsewhere ?

I know of a couple of places in London that rebuild your own for around that cost.

If JLR strengthened the oil pump because of a known deficiency I would be looking at a claim because this is an admission that the existing design wasn't fit for purpose. It may be worth seeking Legal advice as to whether there are grounds for a claim.

The price is from a L R specialist who advertises in the L R O magazine.he told him he has seen failure with the oil pump and now starting to see crankshafts snapping in the 2.7 and 3.0 units
