AA Insurance are Funny

In March I swapped from the X Type 2.2d estate to the XFS 3.0 on my insurance.

I was expecting a bit of a hike in my premium to cover the new car for the period 31st March through to 11th Nov this year

But ,,,,, Shock and horror not an extra penny was paid to my delight.

Renewal just came through and they have upped my premium from about £302 to £675

I've just about stopped laughing.

loads of quotes coming in on comparison sites at circa £300

I rang AA on Friday and lady asked me if I wanted to renew hahaha I said no I want a better quote, still waiting on a call back from them..

They taking the urine or what ?

AA and Meercats are just brokers. Go direct or LV or ,if you qualify, SAGA:)

Not SAGA just yet !!!!
ALWAYS ALWAYS shop around at renewal time

There's ZERO discount for loyalty, in fact you'll be asked to pay above and beyond for some reason

New business is king and everyone will jump up n down for your money

Happy hunting

I qualify!

And insurance for my jaaag was cheaper than anywhere else, but, there's always a but, they refused to cover my current daily, the Ford Connect,but...they did refund the remaining policy on the Jaaag,so all was not lost.
The robot that worked out you're renewal quote is using AI. AI is rubbish so it got it wrong.

This is why we shouldn't be afraid of AI. We should be afraid of the people who rely on it.

Once when I had insurance I had an accident. I made a nice stripe down the side of the car speeding round the blind corner past my car park entrance, and lost all my no claims bonus.

My next insurance, picked from the usual bargain bucket was about the same price as before.

Morning Guys,

My car insurance is with Esure and has been for many years now. I always check on comparison sites at renewal time but Esure are always cheapest.
Plus, In 2014 when my Golf TDi got side rammed at a traffic island they were brilliant and gave me an unbelievable write off payment. A lot more than I was expecting.

As for the AA, In May my breakdown renewal arrived for a whopping £152.50 which I declined and I went to Green Flag and same cover for just £58.44.

Tootle Pip.

Supertrev.

Can be worth going via a comparison website as the insurers often give a better rate than going direct as they are in a price competition on the same page.
I found this with broadband, when I went straight to the ISP and found their price was higher than a comparison site, I was told they give special rates to the comparison sites and then I was re-directed to another page on their website which had the lower offer on it!

Have to be careful to compare like for like, e.g. no claims protection, legal cover, hire car, compulsory and voluntary excesses. The latter especially can change the premium significantly.

And Saga are never the cheapest by a very long haul. Speaking as one who qualifies, but only ever did it once.

I find their quotes laughable. To be honest I use the guys that advertise on here every year for my first "quote" qand then simply look elsewhere. The last two years they have been cheapest, but remember it's not just the cost, it's how much you have to pay out of your pocket should you have a prang that makes the biggest difference.
Yes you must look at everything covered by each bidder, there are great differences and you must be careful.
My first car: 1994 Renault Clio, cheapest insurance I could find £1,400. Renewal quote was £1,600 but I didn't bother as I went back to uni.

Second car: 51 plate Vauxhall corsa, cheapest insurance I could find £1,200. Renewal quote was £1,150 but I managed to get another provider for £900ish

Third car: 2008 Honda Civic TypeS, cheapest insurance was £700ish. Renewal quote was £900, best I could settle for was £850

Fourth car: E92 BMW 330D, insurance went back up to £950, renewal quote was £1300, settled for around £800

Current car: XFR got insured for £650ish, just had a renewal quote for £850 but went elsewhere and now settled at £400!

Had a couple of cars in between too and now got a yaris as my DD as well which is another £450 to insure.

Point being that insurers baffle me with their excuses at renewal time. There's always something to justify the insane price demands - oh the moon and stars haven't aligned sir, oh its because you're a man, oh its because the insurance premium tax has gone up, oh its because males and females are treated equally now sir, oh its because you don't own a husky and only drive on the 4th night of every full moon.

I'm just glad I bought the jag and not an M3. The xfr is insanely cheap to insure for someone my age and for the power it has under the bonnet compared to other similar cars. I feel incredibly lucky and keep praying that next year they don't come up with a feeble excuse to bump the price up...

Don't threaten them with a Fiat Cinque Cento Raptor, they'll throw a fit. :):)
