alloy wheels splitting

Do other people have a problem with their alloy wheel rims cracking. Three of my rims had split and been welded and then one cracked again so i bought another set of secondhand ones off ebay. Now blow me one of these have split on the rim. Is this just me or just Jaguar or do alloy wheels give trouble generally.

Which wheels do you have? Some are more prone to cracking than others.
Make and size may help
I think the ones that came with the car are belize. The ones I changed them for are ten spokes with an egg shaped hole between each pair of spokes. they are 225/45/17 they all split inside, the previous owner had had the belize wheels welded but one of the welds split
I didn't think Belizes were fragile but I've never had them. Hopefully someone who has will be able to comment.
Personally for the sake of safety, I'd buy some new wheels. Once metal-fatigue sets in, there is no correcting it (only temporary patching).
There are many reasons why alloys crack... Underinflated tyre pressures, harder rubber compunds (budget tyres), larger rim size/shorter tyre profiles, worn suspension and so on. But with cracked rims becoming more common in recent years across all marques of vehicle, i truly believe the main reason is our countrys staggering lack of maintenence to its road surfaces.
You wouldnt believe how many new 'traffic calming humps' have been installed on roads that already resemble a Lunar landscape!
I thought it was the Proteus wheels that tended to crack. I think I recall reading somewhere on this forum the early ones cracked and the later ones did not.

actually come think of it I do have to drive over a series of traffic calming bumps, those square ones which you have to straddle, on the way home every day, perhaps i'll try to run over them differently.

Same as myself.

Monitor your tyre pressures obsessively!

I understand that it harmful to low-profile tyres to straddle the pillow-shape speed humps. The inside sidewall of each tyre takes a lot of stress as you go over the bump. Far better to steer left or right of the pillow so one side of the car stays on the normal road surface and the other side rides evenly over the hump. Obviously - you need to do this quite slowly... which I guess is the purpose of the hump...!!!

Don't straddle, but drive one side over the humps as mentioned regularly in Honest John's motoring column.

Hi. Proteus wheels are bad as there is a big gap between the spokes.
If you are thinking of buying new wheels I think forged wheels are better but they are two piece
I have read. BMW use them now apparently. I should think you can get them to fit Jag but I bet they
are pretty expensive.
