Well it's going smooth this week. Just been to a wedding where I may have been a super spreader as I have just tested positive for covid. Parked up on the drive for the parking brake fault to flash up. Great, mot is booked for Saturday and I feel that carp I won't be looking at it soon. I may just take it down and see if anything else is falling off. In all fairness the parking brake has been groaning when put on for about a week or so. I am bering very optimistic that a clean and lube will sort it.

If it's still working, then I don't think it would fail?
It could be the hall effect sensor in the actuator, which causes the error but the handbrake keeps working. Or the module, or both.

Worth looking at those rubber protectors that sit on top of the antiroll bar drop link to see if they are wearing into the handbrake cables.

Mine just passed with park brake fault message (but it was working). As long as it works to spec and there's no ABS fault you might be alright.

Sorry to hear Deadpool.......

As per MrKis though, I'd definitely check the cabling around the diff area, especially if the issues happen primarily when its wet or after just washing the car.

I had similar problems with my XJ X358 ( for me nearly always when raining or after just washing the car ) and it was the cabling around the diff area, chafed through and a common issue. It was covered using electrical tape temporarily, but never suffered any further issues and so left it as it was.

Cheers
Jim

Mine's got the park brake fault on the dash although it does still work. Hall sensor fault I believe. Not quite sure how to resolve it or what actually needs replacing? Would be good to know a definite fix for it as I'd rather not see the amber warning light on the dash all the time. Been there for a while now. Just passed an MOT like that.

You’d probably need to change the actuator as the Hall effect switch is not sold separately.
Maybe you could find the part if you Could get some numbers off the old Hall effect switch. Maybe you can clean them or something.
New actuators are around £250.

I have the same coming up on my 2.7. I am hoping a brake refurb will do the job as it is still holding. So maybe just a sticky caliper of pad. Finger crossed.

If you suspect sticky callipers, take out the calliper slide pin rubber guide bushes and get rid of any corrosion sitting under them. Clean up the pins. Obvs.
Will refurb them with new pots and rubbers along with a sand blast. Be looking like new. Hopefully that'll do the job. Car is having the door corners and the obligatory oxidisation sorted on the boot lid. She will be looking great for her next owner.

Not had a chance to look at it due to a house of plague. I will take it in tomorrow incase there is anything else that they find. I dread worn bushes every year lol. Ive got the battery doing a deep recharge on the optimiser thingy because the battery went flat last Friday after I moved the car so you never know it could be a battery problem.

Well its working now but it's still a bit groany so I am guessing a clean and lube is in order. I have a cable oiler so I may try giving them a squirt with that and see if it improves matters.

Lord give me strength, just set off for mot and now have suspension fault! So either got a dodgy battery, alternator is a bit iffy or another earth stud is falling apart. Or I do have a suspension fault.

its a sealey hydraulic oiler model ms0381. I haven't tried it yet so no idea if it works. I got this because it is big and the parkng brake cables are quite chunky.

On the MOT side it....failed but only on a trye. It seems that stupid paving slab did a bit more damage to thetyre than I thought. Have to wait until Thursday to get the tyre fitted because I want to keep matching Uniroyals.
