Bit of advice please guys auto gearbox

A work mate has a 2003 3.0 Auto Xtype drove it yesterday no problems got up this morning went to go to the paper shop and no reverse, he pushed it off the drive and put it into drive and all good it got home and tried to reverse it onto the drive no reverse

as it sits now it will go forwards and change gear without issue but has no reverse !! fluid seems to be fine as far as what he has told me so thought id ask the question here before he gets his pants pulled down

Any advice would be much appreciated
