Jaguar XF – Boot showing open but actually closed and the car won’t lock via remote.
Parked my car today got out and tried to lock it via the remote and the door buttons but got the blip sound to say a door was open. Checked all doors and they were closed. Got back in the car and the information centre said the boot was open? Checked the boot, but it was actually locked and would not open via the button or the remote. Gained entry via the boot lock with the remotes door key and closed it again, but still the car would not lock. Managed to lock the car via the passenger’s side door key lock and hoped when I came back everything would be o.k?
You guessed it - it wasn’t, so popped in to a nearby jaguar dealer who advised me that they have had a technical notice regarding this problem and he explained that the problem was a broken wire located in the rubber boot / pipe that connects the wiring from the car body to the boot lid on the right hand side of the boot.
As the car is now out of warranty he advised that the cost to repair the fault would be around £100. Being an ex-electrician I was a little surprised as flexible cables don’t normally break, especially on a 3, year old car?
I took it home and had a look for myself and there it was one broken cable, I put a though crimp on it and that was it job done. If your good at DIY it a job worth doing yourself.
