The gearbox service is not on jaguars service schedule but ZF recommend it. This scenario is true of most similar cars. A gearbox service is around £400 and should be done around 70k miles.

When looking at a car you should look for signs of water in the central junction box and the boot.
Test everything.
After buying you should apply the cheap simple fixes to avoid the above problems.

I gained a lot of guidance as above before I bought mine 2010 3.0d Portfolio My only help would be this, when looking at MOT history tyres that are always on advisory tend to show an owner that neglects their car! A caring Jag owner NEVER neglects tyres period. Please also remember there are thousands for sale out there. A lot beauties but also tarted up dogs! Took me a few weeks and lots of searching but found mine owned by previous for 11 yes 11 years with fjsh and lots of paperwork. Yours is out there and good luck in your search. As an aside I was out shopping in Warrington years ago happened to walk by Warrington Jag Centre and saw a x350 on show. Would you like to sit in it sir said this nice man called Charlie  2 weeks later it was on my drive. You have been warned. If only new Jags had the same "feel"
Sorry to ramble and kind regards Alan
I really wouldn’t go off MOT tyre reports. Low tyres are the only thing on my MOT history.
Some of these are from MOT places trying to sell tyres and some are because a set of tyres are nearly a thousand pounds and I WILL get all the wear from them.

I doubt there are many better STR’s out there than mine.

Congratulations on the new car.
Theres a couple of items to look into for preventative maintenance.
Firstly, consider re sealing the slam vents or replacing them to prevent water in the boot.
Secondly, the car is probably due a gearbox service. I’d consider changing all the fluids if you don’t have evidence of them being changed. Coolant and power steering too.

Be careful with some Chinese EBay sellers guarantees. When you contact them after say, six months, they ignore you and even if the same listing is still active eBay won’t do anything if it’s over the 90 days.
Either that or they say post it back to Guangdong, which will cost you more than £50.

Dealers don’t do many gearbox services as it’s older cars that need them and it isn’t on the official schedule.
ZF, who make the gearbox, have a list of official gearbox specialists, or a Jag specialist.
