Electrical fault

I have a 60 Plate XF. Recently for the 3rd time in 7 months, the electrics have completely died on me without reason. However, once jumped started car ran normally. The roadside mechanic stated that both the Alternator and Battery were charging and holding a charge. No lights/music were left on. Has anyone else had this problem?

Were there any diagnostic codes.

Hiya Roger, thanks for coming back to me.

I've got the car booked in for Wednesday for diagnostic check. Just wanted a general feel as to, if anyone else had experienced this fault/problem.
Welcome to the forum!

Thread moved to XF section.
I did have the same problem in my X Type Jag. The battery and alternator were tested by the local battery and exhaust retailer and I was told the battery and alternator were fine. Eventually, I got fed up with the problem, fitted a new battery anyway and never had another problem. I still have the old battery, almost four years later, (so the battery is now about 12 years old) and still use it for jump starting ride on lawnmowers.
Doesn’t sound dis-similar to a problem I am having intermittently. Sometimes while driving the Sat Nav freezes or the phone disconnects.

After a while, the electrics seem to cut out, flaps go down, radio off etc and then immediately come back on. ( a little disturbing at 70mph).

Everything is then back to normal. It only happens once every 4 or 5 months.

Having had 3 X types I know the answer with electrics is simple - get a new battery so I think that’s my next step.
:???:Crikey, lucky enough and thankfully that hasn't happened to me. My XF is being looked at this morning. Fingers crossed they actually find something!

Hi, I would have fitted a new battery long before now. Phil
So if I buy a new battery from Halfords, Can I just undo the terminals and put the new one on?
Is there anything I should do? Before or after?
