Engine Oil for a 2012 2.2 Diesel XF?

Hi All,

Could anybody shed some light on the oil my handbook says I must use to top up the engine please: 5W-30 (WSS M2C934-B)?

I've been to Halfords and there's 5W-30 suitable for Mercs, Porsches, etc, but not the right spec for my car and from what little I can glean from the 'net its a 'Jaguar only' supplied item - is this really the case?

Many thanks. ;)

According to the good old interweb your looking for
Shell Helix Diesel Ultra AF-L 5W-30 Fully Synthetic Low SAPS Engine Oil
See Shell Helix Diesel Ultra AF-L 5W-30 diesel engine oil
Thanks bethpage. much appreciated. ;)
I had e-mailed my local Jaguar dealership just for grins to see how much their 'special' oil would cost before I posted this thread. Well, they called me this morning and much to my surprise a litre of Jaguar oil is cheaper than the independant company mentioned above!

The company is looking for £15.48 inc VAT & carriage, whereas Jaguar is wanting £14.40, the carriage cost is the stumbling block. That said, but I don't have the figures to hand, is 5 litres from the company is at least £5.00 cheaper than Jaguar's and that is including VAT & carriage.

Lesson learned - buy more to save more.
So now we have an issue - went to Jaguar today to buy the litre of oil only to discover when I got home they had sold me Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 - and that was with them checking my car in their computer system!

What happened to only use WSS M2C934-B spec oil as specified by Jaguar in their handbook, because 5W-40 sure isn't the spec demanded. I'm going to e-mail the dealer to see what answer they come up with as I see no point being put through a 3-ringed circus attempting to get the right oil only for the dealer to sell me something close, but not close enough from the handbook's instructions. :(
Our local dealer uses the big drums of Shell Helix with the pump dispenser, Jaguar recommends Castrol not Shell. You could try Quicko they are located in Righead Ind Est, Bellshill Tel 01698 749990. Chances are they will have the correct spec of oil in stock, worth a try. As for the dealer explain your not happy with been given the wrong spec of oil for your car, failing that go to Jaguar UK & kick up a stink.
Thanks for that info Andrew. ;)

Got an e-mail reply from the dealer - apparently 5W-30 and 5W-40 oils are (were) stored beside each other and I was handed the wrong grade. They have investigated the reason why and changed their method of storage, but it leads me to ask why after the service receptionist pulled up my car details on their computer he didn't check he was giving me the right oil.

It also makes me wonder if they're going to check through their sales records to establish how many other customers have been given the wrong oil? I'm surprised that such an important process of supplying the correct oil demanded by Jaguar could go so wrong for how many previous customers I wonder, something I will be raising when I go in in to collect the right oil.
Put wss m2c934-b into a search on e.bay you will be glad you did i bought adenol from germany £32
A 5w30 oil marked 'C3' will be fine.

jaguar used to recommend Castrol, not the case any more, weegiebobs sounds like it is diesel with the DPF . if like mine and that's the case Castrol no longer supply C1 low ash oil for DPF cars and use shell C1 low ash oil for service . and that is the case with taggarts Glasgow mine goes in 28th this month for service;)
