Front heated Windscreen

Hairline crack has appeared and started to creep up at the bottom of the screen and is now about 3 inches in length. Unfortunately its to big for the Autoglass resin etc so looks like a replacement. Anyone know where i could get a second hand replacement or if there are any good Jaguar breakers in the Warwickshire/West Midlands area? Thanks.

Hi, mine has two cracks in it and when I get around to getting it fixed (MOT isn't due until Jan 2013) I will ring my car insurance company and tell them that my windscreen has just cracked, they will either contact Auto-glass Windscreens or a similar company who will come out to my workplace / home etc to replace it, or inform me where I am authorized to go to get it replaced. According to my Car Insurance documentation as long as I use their approved Glass Replacement Company all I have to pay is £75.00 glass excess, this used to be £50.00 but due to current financial issues it must have crept up since last time I checked or needed a new section of glass.

Hope this helps: Geoff
As above. Are you not covered on insurance?

I have a heated/rain sensor screen that did suffer a sudden stone chip and was replaced by Autoglass with a like for like OEM screen. Cost-£60 excess.
I'm guessing that it's not going to be covered by insurance, otherwise you wouldn't be asking....

I've been told, but I can't confirm, that the Mk3 Mondeo has the same screen.
And, that the Mondeo screens are cheaper than the X-Type ones.
This is just hearsay, so i'd like to be proven wrong as much as proven right on this one.

Otherwise I remember reading that aftermarket screens are available for the X-Type.

When it comes to finding a replacement, you might find that there are "options" for rain sensors, or electrochromic mirror.
These are the same thing in the end, if you've got the rain sensor then the little round window for it can be exposed with a razor blade.

There are four different screens for the X-Type;

Non-heated, without electrochromatic mirror / rain sensor
Non-heated, with electrochromatic mirror / rain sensor
Heated, without electrochromatic mirror / rain sensor
Heated, with electrochromatic mirror / rain sensor

I suggest, ring around, see who can offer the best deal. My experience is to be less concerned if it's OEM or aftermarket, the real kicker is how good the guys doing the installation are. You can pay top dollar for the screen, but it makes no difference if it leaks because of poor installation.

Might have to bite the bullet and do it on the insurance at £100 excess. Still I guess that's why we have insurance!
£100 seems a lot for windscreen excess. That said, a new screen will cost a lot more than that.
